Just A Song…….

At one point in my life, I found myself living in a small “apartment” in New York while the rest of my family was in Florida.  It didn’t take long for introspection to kick in and seeing that our things had been divided between theirs and mine.  Mine were in boxes that I never unpacked and theirs had been sent down to Florida.

Though I don’t know music and have never even dabbled in songwriting, this experience (and a lot of time on my hand) filled my creative mind with the opening line and the rest of this song came out.

I had imagined it as a Springsteen-type of arrangement, a friend of mine at the time saw it in more of a Johnny Cash mode.  Neither was certainly not in the vein of what is usually my first choice genre.

The Flood

Sometimes I wake in the dark of the night in this room of boxes filled with half my life and it ain’t where I thought I’d be, somewhere along the way, baby, I lost me. I thought I was gonna do it right, I’d not go down without a fight but Im not the man I thought I was and I got caught, baby, in the flood

I got lost in the flood
I got mired, baby, in the mud
I lost you and I lost the years
Swept away in the flood of tears

All she wanted was a piece of the world, a bouncin’ boy and a baby girl and a man doing what he should but I’m not a man I’m just flesh and blood. Sometimes this world can beat you down, take them dreams and kick ‘em around but I just let my dreams just slip away, lost in my fears and the flood of tears

I got lost in the flood
I got mired, baby, in the mud
I lost you and I lost the years
Swept away in the flood of tears

In this world of poets, dreamers and frauds its easy to get lost between birth and God but if I could only build us an ark where we could ride out these waters so dark. We could find our peace of ground and rest while the flood goes down but I don’t see no rainbow or dry land and my dove ain’t coming back again

I got lost in the flood
I got mired, baby, in the mud
I lost you and I lost the years
Swept away in the flood of tears
